Recent visit to Macy, NE

Author: cghill

Earlier last month, Christina and I traveled to Macy, NE to visit collaborators and tour local garden plots. It was a momentous occasion for the Three Sisters Project, as it was the first field trip in over a year due to Covid! It was incredibly nice to visit with people, and to get back to the face-to-face interaction that we’ve been missing. We’re incredibly grateful to Suzi, who spent time with us and introduced us to new friends at Macy Public Schools. We had the pleasure of meeting Ricardo and Delberta, who are leading a summer program that employs teens to work in the school garden. They’ve been laboring over three sisters garden mounds and an extensive vegetable plot, which will contribute to the school lunch programs. The school is also working on establishing a raised bed garden and getting their greenhouse ready for full-time use. During this trip we also got to visit with Lavonne, who we haven’t seen since our advisory council meeting in January of 2020! Overall, we had a great trip. It was wonderful reconnecting with everyone, making new connections, and getting to see all the hard work and love that people have been pouring into their gardens. Thanks for having us, we hope to visit again soon for workshops!
